Upcoming Events

The Kellogg-Hubbard Library is a community hub for lifelong learning. We are a free non-profit public library serving the central Vermont towns of Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex, Montpelier, and Worcester.

We offer free access to nearly 70,000 books, movies, audiobooks, and more, plus a range of online resources. Our friendly staff is happy to help you find what you’re looking for.

Everyone is welcome in our building! Come stay awhile, pull up a comfortable chair, and enjoy a book. We offer public computers and printing, restrooms, and free wi-fi access. You can also contact us to schedule free Notary Public services. Our Children’s Library is a great place for a playdate or after school activities. We also offer spaces for work and for community groups to hold meetings and events.

We are a learning and cultural center of the community. We offer hundreds of free programs each year for all ages. We host authors and historians, storytimes and craft activities, arts and musical events, and much more. We are especially proud of PoemCity, our annual celebration of National Poetry Month, and our StoryWalk® program, which has spread the joy of reading to children across the world!

FAQs

How do I get a library card?

You need a Library Card to borrow materials and to use digital services like Libby, Flipster, and Kanopy.

You can get a free Library Card if you:

  • Live or pay property taxes in one of our supporting towns (Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex, Montpelier or Worcester)
  • Teach or go to a public school in one of our member towns, including VABE (Vermont Adult Basic Education) and CCV (community college of Vermont – Montpelier).

How can I support the library?

Thank you! Supporting the Kellogg-Hubbard Library is a great way to support your community. Each gift of time or financial resources helps us to provide free and equal access to materials, resources, programs, and a welcoming space for all community members to enjoy.

Here are some ways to give:

  • Make a financial contribution: Unlike many other libraries, KHL is a 501c3 non-profit, which means 50% of our funding comes from the generosity of donors like you.
  • Volunteer: The library is always on the lookout for helping hands. We have many opportunities for volunteers to pitch in including shelving and processing materials, helping with outreach, and in our year-round book sale.

Popular Programs

Art at the Library

The Library contains a small permanent art and sculpture collection, and hosts regular monthly exhibits by local artists in the Kitzmiller Fiction room and the Children’s Library.

Combine reading and the great outdoors with StoryWalk®! StoryWalk promotes early literacy, physical activity, and time together in nature. It’s a fun and educational family activity that you can bring to your community!

PoemCity is our annual celebration of National Poetry Month each April. PoemCity displays poems by Vermonters in storefront windows in downtown Montpelier and organizes a community calendar of poetry events for the month.
